T he ride isn't perfect, feeling a little jiggly at times, but the corsa is good at dealing with potholes (at least on our car's 16-inch wheels) and generally strikes a good compromise between comfort and control.


Similarly, some wind and road noise enter the car at motorway speeds, but these sounds aren't overly intrusive, and the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is remarkable smooth and quiet for a three-cylinder unit. Note, however, that the big wheels of the VXR hot hatch model generate a lot of road noise above 50mph.


The height of the driver's seat is fixed in life specification corsas. However, other versions of the car offer enough adjustment to let most people find a driving position that works.

Simple enough to use and looks smart


A s long as you avoid the cheapest versions of the corsa, you get vauxhall’s intellilink touchscreen entertainment system.


This is worth having because it features logically laid out menus and the software responds quickly. Plus you can download apps to bring extra functions, such as satnav.


V auxhall has also avoided the mistake made by peugeot, and kept the air-conditioning controls separate from the touchscreen so you can quickly adjust the temperature or fan speed.


And while the corsa doesn’t feel as classy inside as a 208, it’s smarter than many other small hatchbacks, including its arch rival the ford fiesta.


Easy to drive 7/10

At its best in town, where you can make the most of the light steering and good visibility


T he steering is light at low speed, and it can be made even lighter at the touch of a button. This combines with good all-round visibility and the car's comparatively small size to take the strain out of manoeuvring. And if you’re still worried about parallel parking, there’s the option of a system that steers the car into spaces for you.


Sadly, the corsa isn’t as impressive on faster roads because you have to make lots of small steering corrections to maintain a steady course.


We tried the 89bhp 1.0-litre turbo petrol model (there’s also a 113bhp version of this engine), and it's well worth considering. It feels much stronger than you’d expect given its modest power output, so you can leave the gearstick alone for long periods and still keep pace with traffic.


P ast experience of the diesels and the turbocharged 1.4 petrol suggest these will also make the corsa more than just a town car, but the non-turbo 1.2 and 1.4 petrols are likely to struggle on the motorway.



Fun to drive 7/10

D ecent to drive, but the ford fiesta still sets the standard in this area


T he vauxhall corsa stays pretty composed in corners, even if you avoid the sportier models, and UK cars get a bespoke steering set-up that helps them respond quickly and reassuringly when you turn the wheel.


True, a fiesta is more agile and entertaining, and the gearshift is a little notchy, but overall the corsa is quite enjoyable to drive.


The 202bhp VXR hot hatch version is quick in a straight line and lively through the corners, but we'd avoid the optional performance pack unless you regularly plan on driving on track.


Reliability 5/10

Vauxhall owners have some grumbles and warranty is ordinary


Like all vauxhalls, the corsa will be covered by three-year, 60,000-mile warranty from january 2015. This is comparable with the cover that you get with a ford fiesta or VW polo, but inferior to the five-year, unlimited mileage warranties offered on the hyundai i20 andtoyota yaris.


V auxhall also performed pretty poorly in the 2014 JD power customer satisfaction survey. And while the latest corsa was obviously too new to be included, the previous model finished down in mid-table in the most recent version of warranty direct's recent reliability index, which is based on warranty claims.


Fuel economy 9/10

A vailable with some very efficient engines


T he majority of engines in the corsa range provide excellent fuel economy.


The diesels are at least as frugal as most rival models. And the turbocharged 1.0-litre petrols also look very efficient on paper, although our experience suggests these are more sensitive to driving style.


Only the automatic version of the 1.4-litre petrol car has disappointing figures.


Affordability 8/10

Competitively priced and most versions have low running costs


It's best to ignore the headline-grabbing starting price because the versions you'll actually want cost thousands more. However, they still undercut equivalent fiestas.


Vauxhall dealers also match their ford counterparts in offering big discounts to offset comparatively weak resale values. And they have some very attractive PCP finance deals.


Servicing and insurance bills are affordable, while the diesel and the weaker of the two 1.0-litre turbo petrol have low CO2 emissions that make them attractive company car choices.


Safety 9/10

S hould perform well in a crash, and available with lots that will help you avoid one


T he latest vauxhall corsa hasn't been crash tested by the independent assessors at euro NCAP, but the signs are promising because its predecessor achieved the maximum five-star rating.


Standard safety equipment includes six airbags and an electronic stability control system that helps you recover from skids. What’s more, there are additional driver aids are on the options list, including one that warns if there’s a vehicle in your blind spot, and another that will automatically apply the brakes if it senses you’re about to run into the vehicle in front in stop-start traffic.

Only the cheapest versions feel basic


The cheapest version of the corsa is the sting, which comes with alloy wheels, a bluetooth hands-free phone connection and a socket that lets you connect your ipod to the stereo. However, you have to upgrade to the excite spec to get air-conditioning, a digital radio and the touchscreen entertainment system.


Design spec is also worth considering because it swaps the alloy wheels for cruise control and a wider range of engines, including the impressive 89bhp 1.0-litre turbo petrol.


Then there’s the sporty looking sri model, the even sportier looking sri VX-line, and the range-topping limited edition. We wouldn’t bother with the last of these, though, because it’s quite pricey and lesser corsas are already well equipped.

The verdict 8/10


The vauxhall corsa is cheap to run, smart inside and easy to drive around town, plus the turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine is both smooth and strong. If you're looking for an affordable car and don't mind compromising a bit on interior space and fun, it should be on your list.

4. As of november 19, 2010, the filer had outstanding 23,346,767 common shares and 154,319,800 subscription receipts (each convertible into one common share);

5. The filer, through a wholly-owned US subsidiary (US subco), proposes to indirectly acquire, as a result of the acquisition of a newly formed limited liability company, the following assets (the assets) and assume the associated liabilities from seven individual vendors resident in pennsylvania (collectively, the vendors) in accordance with the terms of an agreement and plan of merger dated august 16, 2010:

(a) mining leases, options to lease and options to acquire in respect of properties (the coal properties) covering approximately 14,050 acres of land in the northeast united states; a technical report in respect of the coal properties reports resources of 81 million tons of recoverable coal (proven and probable reserves: 5 million tons; measured and indicated resources: 74 million tons; and inferred resources 2 million tons);

(b) the land (and environmental and operating permits) for a site upon which the construction of a plant designed for washing coal production from nearby properties (the washing plant) has been undertaken and an associated refuse site;

(c) one small scale open pit mine (the acosta mine), including leases which cover 53 acres, that has been in operation since january, 2003;

(d) a second small scale open pit coal mine (the quarry mine), including leases and equipment, which is currently being operated as part of a stone and coal operation by the current owners; and

(e) a third open pit coal mine (the cramer mine) which commenced production in july 2010.


6. The acosta mine is operated by a third party "contract miner"; accordingly, the owner of the acosta mine is not responsible for the day-to-day operations of the acosta mine; the recoverable coal resources associated with the acosta mine are estimated at 420,143 tons; the owner of the acosta mine purchased the mine in 2008 for $694,000;


7. US subco proposes to acquire indirectly only the rights to the coal operations of the quarry mine (and not the stone quarry); the recoverable coal resources associated with the quarry mine are estimated at 482,606 tons;


8. The only active business carried on by the vendors or prior owners in respect of the assets is the businesses carried on in respect of the acosta mine, the quarry mine and the cramer mine; in addition, the vendors commenced in june 2010 the construction of the washing plant; construction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2011 and operations are expected to start in the first quarter of 2011;


9. Except as noted above, the vendors have not carried on any exploration or development activities in respect of any of the coal properties for more than eight years;


10. The purchase price for all of the assets is approximately US$40 million, allocated as follows:

Nous avons pu approcher la nouvelle opel corsa 6, quelques mois avant sa commercialisation en novembre 2019. Nos premières impressions en vidéo.


C’est au coeur de paris dans un ancien garage qu'opel nous a donné rendez-vous pour découvrir la nouvelle corsa. Cette sixième génération d’une lignée démarrée en 1982 marque une vraie rupture avec les anciens modèles. Fini, les liens avec general motors, la corsa “F” est un produit 100% PSA. Elle partage désormais sa plateforme avec la nouvelle peugeot 208. Cela lui réussit plutôt bien car elle a perdu jusqu’à 108 kg sur la balance par rapport à l’ancienne corsa, alors qu’elle a grandi de 4 cm pour atteindre 4,06 mètres.


Sur le plan du style, la nouvelle corsa n’est pas un clone de la peugeot 208. Elle a sa propre identité visuelle. Capot nervuré, ligne de toit fuyante, carrosserie bicolore, spoiler arrière : elle joue à fond la carte de l’agressivité. Et se donne même des airs de petite sportive dans sa nouvelle finition GS line, équipée de boucliers spécifiques, de jantes en alliage de 18 pouces et d’une double sortie d’échappement. Le tout agrémenté d’une teinte peu discrète “rouge piment” (option à 520 euros). Certains regretteront juste la disparition de la carrosserie à trois portes.

Une présentation moderne


En entrant à bord de la nouvelle corsa, nous sommes agréablement surpris par la bonne position de conduite. Notre regard se tourne ensuite vers la planche de bord, très épurée et égayée sur cette version GS line par des inserts colorés côté passager et une sellerie spécifique. Le grand écran tactile (jusqu’à 10 pouces) surprend par son intégration, très inclinée. Cela semble faciliter son utilisation en roulant, à vérifier lors des premiers essais en fin d’année.


Le système multimédia est repris des modèles de chez peugeot et citroën, à un détail près : opel a conservé des commandes de climatisation physiques. Ce qui reste bien plus ergonomique que de devoir passer par l’écran tactile. A noter qu’il est également possible d’opter pour un écran de 10 pouces en lieu et place du poste d’instrumentation à aiguilles.

Opel a également fait un effort sur les rangements. Outre les bacs dans les portières, la nouvelle corsa dispose d’un grand rangement en bas de la console centrale (qui peut intégrer un chargeur par induction) et d’une boîte à gants très profonde.


Une habitabilité correcte


Au chapitre “vie à bord”, les ingénieurs ont fait ce qu’il faut pour optimiser l’espace. Les dossiers creusés des sièges avant permettent de libérer de la place pour les genoux, la garde au toit est suffisante pour de grandes personnes. Au final, la nouvelle corsa peut accueillir deux adultes à l’arrière dans de bonnes conditions. Ces derniers peuvent même profiter de deux ports USB, en option. Quant au coffre, il affiche une capacité correcte de 309 litres. L’ouverture large du hayon facilite le chargement.


En matière de qualité perçue, la nouvelle corsa n’atteint pas le niveau de la peugeot 208. Les plastiques de la console centrale et des portières sont peu valorisants. Précisons tout de même que les modèles exposés étaient des versions de pré-série. Il faudra donc attendre la fin de l’année avant de tirer des conclusions sur ce point.

If you haven’t owned a vauxhall corsa, it’s a solid bet that you’ve been a passenger in one. And it’s all but guaranteed it’ll be a familiar sight to you on the road – perhaps covered in L-plates with an enthusiastic youngster at the wheel. Why? Because vauxhall sells bucket loads of them, and to every age range, from teenagers to pensioners.


Yes, even in such a hotly contested class as small cars, with rivals like the ford fiesta, seat ibiza and volkswagen polo, the corsa has always been near the top of the new car sales charts, while used examples have found their way onto countless more driveways. Being keenly priced and cheap to insure aids its appeal, but for this fifth-generation iteration, change is afoot.



Vauxhall’s now part of the french PSA group (made up of peugeot, citroën and DS), and for the first time the vauxhall corsa shares its underpinnings with the latest peugeot 208 and DS 3 crossback. That includes its petrol and diesel engines, plus the workings of the very first all-electric corsa, which has the same battery and motor as the e-208. But no matter which corsa you go for, it’s definitely not just a cut-and-paste job from within the PSA group. Vauxhall has specifically calibrated its steering and its suspension to give the corsa a feel of its own. And, dimensions aside, it bears little visual resemblance to the 208, inside or out.


So, is the vauxhall corsa a triumphant hit for the bedfordshire brand? How does it compare with the best small cars in the class? Performance & drive


What it’s like to drive, and how quiet it is


Engine, 0-60mph and gearbox


Leaving aside the electric corsa-e, there are three engines available: two petrols and one diesel. We have yet to try the entry-level 74bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine (badged 1.2 75), which comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, but the on-paper figures suggest it’ll be fairly sluggish.


We reckon the pick of the range is the turbocharged 99bhp version (badged 1.2 100 turbo), which has enough flexibility for motorway journeys and accelerates quite briskly. 0-60mph takes 9.3sec, which is similar to the volkswagen polo 1.0 TSI 95 but not as punchy as the more powerful seat ibiza 1.0 TSI 115. Just bear in mind that opting for the eight-speed automatic transmission, rather than the standard six-speed manual, makes the corsa almost a second slower from 0-60mph.


The 101bhp 1.5-litre diesel (badged 102 turbo D) is stronger than the 1.2 100 petrol from low revs and provides more flexible in-gear performance, but isn't quite as quick away from the traffic lights, 0-60mph taking 9.6sec. Although that appears quicker than the polo and ibiza 1.6 TDI's time of 11.3sec, the latter's a 0-62mph time (not 0-60mph), and like for like they'd be about the same.


Suspension and ride comfort


The corsa handles abrupt bumps, such as potholes and drain covers, with reasonable ease, but tends to be disturbed by smaller road surface imperfections that the softer peugeot 208 would glide over. This shortcoming is highlighted if you go for trim levels fitted with bigger, 17in alloy wheels.


Things improve as speeds rise, but the ride never quite settles down as it does in the best rivals, including versions of the volkswagen polo and audi A1, as well as the 208.

Handling


The corsa is stable and surefooted with good grip, but there’s more body lean than you’ll experience in its seat ibiza and ford fiesta rivals.


Also, the corsa’s steering is extremely light and doesn’t weight up like you’d wish it to at faster speeds, feeling a bit vague as a result. So, twirling the corsa’s wheel for manoeuvres into parking spaces is no challenge at all, but it just isn't as much fun to hustle along snaking roads as its rivals. Indeed, the steering is some way off the excellent fiesta's – the best-handling car in the class.

The gaming industry is fast moving. Some games appear and disappear after only a year. Other titles come to stay. The racing simulation assetto corsa belongs to the latter category and is still at the top after six years.


Sim-racing is booming in 2020, with more and more professional racers and aspiring drivers getting behind the wheel to put their foot down on the virtual images of nгјrburgring or silverstone. Iracing and rfactor 2 are among the best sim-racing games on the market, but one inconspicuous name almost towers above the top dogs: assetto corsa from italian development studio kunos simulazioni.

Assetto corsa: from a bumpy start to the sim-racing heights


Since 2006, the kunos simulazioni development studio in the italian capital rome has been working on racing simulations for the PC, but none of their early works really stood out. Until the year 2014.


Or rather 2013, because in november of that year assetto corsa was added to steam's early access program. Based on the years of experience the team has gained with titles such as netkar pro and ferrari virtual academy, the italians did not just create another basic racing simulation.


The focus of assetto corsa is split between an ultra-realistic driving experience (this is also offered by other sim-racing games) and extensive modifiability. Assetto corsa, which roughly translates to racing setup, owes part of its success to the lively modding community.

What is assetto corsa?


Assetto corsa is a racing simulation that was released in december 2014 as a finished game for the PC. The console implementation for playstation 4 and xbox one came almost two years later - in august 2016. Unlike the PC version, those were not too well received by fans and critics.


The reason for this is quickly identified. If you think of console racing games, then you think of controllers, an affectionate career mode, split screen racing and the like. AC doesn't have all that. The controller part especially was a major obstacle.


Assetto corsa is a hardcore simulation and playfully outshines pretty much everything even on consoles. If you play it with a steering wheel. With a controller the racer is completely unplayable and that doesn't go down well at all on consoles.


The most popular racing games


PC gamers, on the other hand, don't care, because the sim racing genre has always been at home here. Still, for both PC and console, if you play AC with a steering wheel, it offers - even from today's point of view - perhaps the best driving physics, the best force feedback and one of the best sound effects the sim-racing genre has to offer.


And yes, we deliberately differentiate here between sim racing and racing games or racing simulation, because there are actually a lot of differences between the sub-genres (even if it may not look like that from the outside).


Assetto corsa may not offer the largest pool of vehicles in the genre and the racer can't hold a candle to the competition in terms of track selection either. On the track, however, the racing game, together with iracing and rfactor 2, is enthroned at the top of the podium and this is mainly due to the community.

Assetto corsa as a modding playground


So how do you keep a game alive that can't keep up with current racing simulations in terms of content and graphics? After all, the italian developers themselves launched the successor, assetto corsa competizione, about two years ago. The answer: with unique community and modding functions.


Assetto corsa has one of the most beginner-friendly and at the same time most comprehensive editors available. The result is a wealth of sensational racing cars and tracks from every era of motorsport. They are (at least some of them) so good that the developers have included them in the game as official content.


A 1360 HP koenigsegg one:1? A rallylegends mod including rally race cars and tracks? Or spectacular weather and sound effects? Thanks to the modding community, AC has all that. There are so many good assetto corsa mods that it's hard to pick out even a top 20.

Assetto corsa: the uncrowned sim-racing king


There are now many sim-racing titles on the market, and they all differ from each other to a greater or lesser extent. Some prefer the driving experience of iracing, others the possibilities of rfactor 2 and others swear by the diversity of project car 2, but assetto corsa, thanks to its community, keeps up well with most of them to this day.

No matter which racing simulation you prefer, assetto corsa had a major impact on the genre around six years ago and provided a number of innovations that are still valid today. It may not be the best sim-racing game on the market, but it is without a doubt one of the most influential.
